/solitude
There are landscapes where silence is not something you find. It is something the landscape imposes — total, physical, pressing in from every direction at once. In these places the self becomes very small; stay long enough and it disappears entirely.
I did not go looking for them. I recognised them, standing inside them — an absolute stillness, indifferent to my presence, larger than anything I brought with me. Grandeur and beauty were present, but they were not the point.
These photographs are not records of where I went. They are what remained.
